Adhs is often subject of criticism, referred to as a phantom or bogus condition: trendy, fashionable diagnosis for people who are basically lazy and unmotivated. Evidence indicates that the condition is extremely real for those who have it: beginning of the 20th century. Dr. george f. still credited with being on of the first authorities to bring the condition we call adhd to medical attention. Still gave 3 lectures to the royal college of physicians of london in 1902 talked about children who displayed: spitefulness, cruelty, disobedience, impulsivity, problems of attention, hyperactivity. Referred to them as having defective moral control . Moral control involves inhibitory volition-the ability to refrain form engaging impulsively in inappropriate behavior. Goldstein reported on the psychological effects of brain injury in soldiers who had suffered head wounds in combat in ww1. Observed characteristics of disorganized: behavior, hyperactivity, perseveration. Tendency to repeat the same behaviors over and over again: forced responsiveness to stimuli .
