Until the 19th century in the advent of railways, travel was not an easy option. Council (wttc), travel and tourism contributed directly and indirectly to the global economy in. The stakeholders in tourism include: governments, the tourism industry, donor agencies, local communities, non-governmental organizations (ngo"s) and tourists. There is much more to tourism than just going on vacation. It is based on economic and social processes and changes that are occurring in the environments of the societies where tourists come from. Its development in destinations focused upon the use of natural and cultural resources, will have economic, environmental and cultural impacts. It may also be interpreted as something that we seek to measure or something that we experience. World tourism industry (1991) defines tourism as: tourism comprises the activities of persons travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business or other purposes.
