Overall, he portrayed them as very religious people who had multiple temples of worship in their civilization. However, in association with their religion, they believed in human sacri ce. That was quite traumatic for the spanish because they were christians who condemned murder. Cort s" letters, the aztecs were portrayed as a very powerful civilization. Cort s" account of the meeting makes it seem like it was very civilized. He described them as very civilized people who were very religious. He also implied that they obeyed his orders, for example when cort s saw the blood of human sacri ce in one the temples, he forbade them from participating in that practice. Cort s made it seem like he was their new leader as soon as he arrived, although that was not the case.
