Theory x suggests that people are almost exclusively driven by extrinsic motivators while theory. Alfie kohn suggest that it"s only necessary to provide the right environment then people will be motivated. Theories fall into two categories: needs theories: describe the types of needs that must be met to motivate us, examples: Maslow"s hierarchy of needs theory (learned the main concepts in psych and life class last semester) If you want to motivate someone, according to maslow, you need to understand what level of hierarchy that person is currently on and focus on satisfying the needs at or above that level.
