Sometimes more ethical to deceive participants into thinking they are in a stressful situation than actually inflicting stress on them. In simulation studies participants are informed about the nature of the research but asked to behave as if they were in a social setting of interest some are highly effective but most are not. Student who participated in experiments in which they were deceived report enjoying them more and receiving more educational benefits from them.
