De ned as cultural differences created by different environment conditions that activate a predictable set of responses. for example: skin calluses and sweat. Two ingredients are necessary to explain cultural variations: a universal underlying mechanism and the environmental differences in the degree to which the underlying mechanism is activated. Wether someone is co-operative or sel sh is a central part of personality but it can also depend upon their culture. Gathered food is considered as a lower variance food resource. The yield from gathering depends more on the skill and effort a persons expends than luck. Under high variance conditions, there are bene ts to sharing. You share your meat with someone unlucky, the next week they share meat with you, some meat would spoil if not shared. They deposit their kill with a distributor a person who allocates portions to various families based on the family size but it is not shared outside of the family.
