Adults do not report for the following reasons: don"t feel the matter is important enough, believe the matter is already dealt with, too personal, or they do not want to involve the police. One type that has been ignored was female perpetrators against males. Prior to 1983, a number of different offences were lumped together under the label of rape. According to the criminal code it was known as a male person commits rape when he has sexual intercourse with a female person who is not his wife without her consent. Now, sexual assault is defined as any non consensual sexual act by either male or female person regardless of the relationship. Weapon or bodily harm: max sentence 14 years.
