Domestic violence: any violence occurring between family members. Emotional abuse is as damaging as physical abuse. Conflict tactics scale (cts), the revised (cts2) Females are more likely to engage in minor physical aggression, such as slapping, kicking, or hitting with an object. Men are more likely to beat up or choke their partners. Do not include the all potential violent acts. Does not take into account the different contexts or consequences of the same act for men and women. Does not assess motive for violence and therefore offensive violence is treated equal to a defensive response. In 1993, 51% of women reported at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. More common in previous relationship; more common on young couples; women report more severe form of violence. The most common type is pushed, grabbed, shoves and slapped. 1/5 canadian university students reported having experienced physical assault by their dating partner in the past year.
