In general, less social support and more socially isolated the person is, the less likely they are to follow medical directions. In a study, it was found that homelessness was the only factor leading to non- completion of therapy or those from an unstable home environment but higher supports have been shown for diabetes patients. Thus, the more serious they perceive it, the more they are likely to comply: social learning theory: locus of control had predicted adherence in regards to weight control programs during a certain study. The dependence was small and mostly depended on social support. Their self-efficacy actually predicted their adherence: the major issue of these models is that they reify the phenomenon. They see the behavior as fixed and abstract from changing social relationships and events and it is a one-time event that extends over a period of time when it is in fact not the case.
