PSYC 3390 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3: Panic Disorder, Hypochondriasis, Hermann Rorschach
Document Summary
Clinical assessment: systematic evaluation and measurement of psychological, biological, and social factors in a person presenting with a possible psychological disorder. Diagnosis: process of determining whether a presenting problem meets the established criteria for a specific psychological disorder (as set forth in the dsm-5) These three are important to all forms of psychological assessment. Core of most clinical work is used by psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals. Interview gathers information on current and past behaviours, attitudes, and emotions, as well as a detailed history of the individual"s life in general and of the presenting problem. Clinicians determine when the specific problem first started and identify other events (e. g. , life stress, trauma, physical illness) that might have occurred about the same time. Most clinicians gather at least some information on the patient"s current and past interpersonal and social history, including family makeup (marital status, number of children, student currently living with parents), and on the individual"s upbringing.
