Measures each variable w one or more questions: keep it clear, simple. 2: and keep respondent"s perspective in mind. Make each question about one and only one topic. Avoid questions that are beyond respondents" capabilities. Avoid asking about intentions of the distant future. Survey researchers know that memory is not trustworthy. Often try to give off a positive image. Ask only after a warm up after developing trust: frame qs in an enhanced way. Occurs when respondents distort answers to conform to social norms. People tend to over report being cultured and giving to charity.
