Document Summary

Canada has become known as the most racially and ethnically diverse society in the world. Immigration has not only allowed many individuals to escape the troubles of their home country but also has created a cultural shift within canada. This is evident in the documentary, scenes from a corner store as a newly immigrated korean family struggles to maintain understanding between the parents and children. Factors such as religion, marriage norms and parenting styles have played a large role in the conflict. For instance, in the documentary, the korean experience expects the daughters to marry within their own culture. One of the daughters, carolyn was scared to tell her parents she was seeing a boy that was not of the same ethnic group. This is very similar to the experiences of other immigrant groups as it is often unacceptable to marry others of differed cultures.
