Causes of severe deviance may involve- criminal justice system (formal): formal response by police, courts and prison official"s to alleged violations of the law. Cesare lombroso theorized that criminals stand out physically, with low foreheads, prominent jaws, cheekbones, hairiness and unusually long arms but this is wrong no physical features categorize criminals. William sheldon- took different approach suggesting that body structure may predict criminality, linking criminality o muscular athetic builds. Glueck and gluek- cautioned that powerful build does not necessarily cause criminality today it is linked to biology through genetic research.
