Self-report studies have been accepted as a legitimate means of examining the reality of crime and criminals. Respondents are concerned about confidentiality and anonymity. The ucr provides information on reported crimes which reveals the sex and age of perpetrators. Victimization statistics document the age and sex of crime victims and the educational, occupational, and income levels of households reporting victimizations. Correlation: a casual complementary, or reciprocal relationship between two measurable variables. Correlations that involve no causal relationship are said to be spurious. Correlates of crime: those variables observed to be related to criminal activity such as age, sex, and gender, ethnicity, and social class. 45% of those charged with property crimes are aged 15-24 years old. 32% of those charged with violent crimes are aged 15-24 years old. More males make up majority of all charges for homicide, sexual assault, child pornography, and sexual violence against children.
