Disasters occur when earth"s natural processes gather energy then release it. 4 energy sources make the earth an acive body: o o o o. Interior holds a lot of stored heat released mostly from ongoing decay of radioacive elements. Earth"s internal energy lows towards surface. o o o. Over short imes, it"s released as erupions and earthquakes. Over long imes, this energy produced coninents, oceans, and atmosphere. On planetary scale, this outward low of internal energy causes coninents to drit and collide, making mountains and plateaus. Gravity is atracive force between bodies. o o. At equal distances, bigger mass = greater gravitaional force. Relaive great mass of earth causes big efect on smaller masses, causing avalanches and landslides. About 1/4 of sun"s energy that reaches earth evaporates and lits water into atmosphere to begin hydrologic cycle. At same ime, gravity brings atmospheric moisture down as rain/snow. o o o.
