Cultures can establish what is considered acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. Aim to ensure uniform practice among members of a society. Just because something is legal does not mean that it"s ethical. Living up to the law does not ensure that someone"s acts are considered ethical. Ex) slavery and women"s voting rights in 1800s. The way someone interprets whether or not an act is ethical is mainly influenced by their values.
