Adm3318 chapter 2- country diferences in poliical economy: Poliical economy: the poliical, economic, and legal systems of a country. Poliical systems: system of government in a naion. Can be assessed according to 2 dimensions: degree to which they emphasize collecivism vs. individualism, degree to which they are democraic or totalitarian. Possible to have a large grey area in the middle of the two dimensions. Collecivism: a poliical system that emphasizes collecive goals as opposed to individual goals: needs of society are viewed as being more important than individual freedoms. Karl marx: modern socialism: advocated that state ownership of the basic means of producion, distribuion, and exchange. Communists: those who believe socialism can be achieved only through revoluion and totalitarian dictatorship. Social democrats: those commited to achieving socialism by democraic means. Greatest inluence in various democraic western naions. Emphasis on the importance of guaranteeing individual freedom and self- expression.
