Chap 15 fitness: physical activity, nutrients, & body adaptations. Fitness: characteristic with the ability of the body to perform physical activity or to have the ability to meet the demands of physical routines with enough reserve energy to rise to a physical challenge. It depends on a certain minimal amount of physical activity or exercise. It involves body movement, muscle contraction, & enhanced energy expenditure. 25% canadian adults are moderately active, 23% are active, 50%+ are inactive. Canadian physical activity guideline recommendation: at least 150min of moderate-vigorous aerobic physical activity each week, at least 10min or more for each session. Flexibility: joints move more freely & reduces injury risk. Muscle strength & endurance: muscles work harder, longer without fatigue. Muscles: worked =hypertrophy (increase in strength & size) & unused = atrophy (decrease in strength & size) Developing fitness requires body to be put under increased demands consistently be active.
