Chapter 2: the history of community power (27-33) Urban studies is concerned with the impact of processes of globalization on urban development patterns and the challenges that are seen to arise for urban governance, broadly defined. Whilst the original community power debate was inevitably a product of its place and time: its contribution to the development of urban studies is substantial in three senses. Established urban politics as a focus for study in its own right rather than effectively assuming that politics was something that urban" academics might choose to engage in outside of their scholarly, non-political" day jobs.
