Evaporation: the transferral of liquid water into gaseous station & its diffusion. There must be available e from the sun/atmosphere & liquid water present for into the atmosphere evaporation to occur. Evaporation becomes major part of the water balance during summer & minor component of hydrological cycle in winter. Open water evaporation (e0): evaporation that occur above a body of water. Largest source of evaporation at global scale, from ocean. Potential evaporation (pe): evaporation that occur over land"s surface. Or occur if have unrestricted water supply. Actual evaporation (et): those which actually occurs. Evaporation above land surface occurs wither as actual evaporation from soil matrix / transpiration from plants. Evapotranspiration: the combination of evaporation & transpiration. Transpiration in plants occur as photosynthesis & respiration. Rate of transpiration is controlled by opening/closing of stomata. Transpiration can be measured through flow of water up the trunk/stem of plant by instruments. Diff species of plant transpire at diff rates.
