In may 2006, a resolution was reached in a corporate espionage case between westjet and air canada. Westjet admitted culpability in accessing confidential information via an air canada web site. Accessing this information, air canada claimed, allowed westjet to identify air canada"s most profitable routes and plan their expansion accordingly. Being privy to this information, air canada claimed, allowed westjet to unfairly adjust its own scheduling and pricing information and to gain a valuable springboard to start new routes and terminating others. In addition, air canada claimed, it allowed westjet to identify booking trends, information tremendously valuable to any airline. In a press release jointly issued with air canada, westjet accepted full responsibility, stating that the conduct was both unethical and unacceptable. in the press release, westjet admitted that certain members of its management team had.
