Textual: written documents & texts that an organization produces. Conventions: norms, guidelines & expectations that govern the technical & creative choices that people of organizations make. Professionalization: process by which an individual w/ free will & choice= transformed (ex, socialized) into an ideological subject (ex, professional) whose behaviours and actions reaffirms ones status as a profession. Professional culture: refers to a set of norms, customs, events, values that emerge as a consequence of formal training, participation, recognition w/in a profession. Professionalization establishment: training, hiring, evaluation & promotion, recognition & rewards, professional societies. History of newspapers: broadside- overtly political: opinionated, muckraking & yellow journalism: sensationalist & no sense of, professional codes: developed in 20th century, objectivity: reporting of facts in an impartial manner- he said/ she social responsibility said. Style of news that lacked any sense of social responsibility, privileged sensational, even fabricated stories & photos. What of news: newsworthiness= holes of news= must be filled everyday.
