MDSB03H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 3-4: Portobello Road, Catherine Deneuve, Margaux Hemingway
Document Summary
The actual thing in the real world to which a word or concept points. Is external to the sign, whereas the signified is part of the sign. Represents a value & its interchangeability with other things gives them value. States what isn"t included verbally or is irrelevant. Orange-gold colour or the sun= warm, natural, pure, light. The object should have the same color and shapes as what we make of the world. Having the object be the same color as the person"s clothes. Blue isn"t important since it blends in with other things. What"s important is the red purple of the cap bottle & the girl"s lips despite that the rest of her face doesn"t show. Bottle top + lips = taste (oral connection) This makes the consumer believe that the two objects have the same quality. Minimizing colour makes everything look like it was made for each other, but it"s not realistic.
