PSYA01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6.1-6.3: Operant Conditioning, Classical Conditioning, Reinforcement
Document Summary
Learning is a process by which behavior or knowledge changes as a result of experience. Classical condition is learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another stimulus. Unconditioned stimulus (us) is a stimulus that elicits a reflective response without learning/conditioning. Unconditioned response (ur) is a reflexive, unlearned reaction to an us. Conditioned stimulus (cs) is a once-neutral stimulus that later elicits a conditioned response because it has a history of being paired with an us. Conditioned response (cr) is the learned response that occurs to the conditioned stimulus. During conditioning, weak synapses fire at the same time as related strong synapses: the simultaneous activity strengthens the connections in the weaker synapse. Pavlov made dogs salivate before getting food: dogs have learned/been conditioned to expect the food, transferred responses from food to other stimuli, dogs salivate for steak (us) Takes neutral stimulus and pairs with steak (us)
