Document Summary

Memory is a collection of several systems that store info in diff forms for diff amounts of time. Path that info takes as it"s stored in memory: 3 memory stores sensory memory, short-term memory (stm), long-term memory (ltm) Stores retain info in memory without using it for any speci c purpose; like hard drives. Control processes shift info from one memory store to another. Info enters sensory memory store through vision, hearing, and other senses, and the control process called attention selects which info will be passed on to stm. Some info in stm goes through encoding process of storing info in ltm system. Retrieval brings info from ltm back into stm; happens when you become aware of existing memories, such as remembering a movie you saw last week. Sensory memory memory store that accurately holds perceptual info for a very brief amount of time; memories disappear faster than we can report them.
