Document Summary

3. 2 how the ns works: cells and neurotransmitters. Human body made up for many dif types of cells. Neurons: one of the major types of cells found in the nervous system. Responsible for sending and receiving messages throughout the body. Primary purpose of neurons is to fire, to receive input from one group of neurons and to then transmit that info to other neurons. Neurons work together in network , firing and receiving info to produce a behaviour/action. Cell body: contains the nucleus, housing the cell"s genetic material. Genes in the cell body synthesize proteins that form the chemicals and structures that allow the neuron to function. Activity of these genes can be influenced by the input coming from other cells. Dendrites: receives input from other cells, transmits those messages toward the rest of the cell. Impulses from other cells travel across the neuron to the base of the cell body: axon hillock.
