Document Summary
Central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. Personality, preferences, memories and awareness are stored in the three-pound brain. Second part of the cns is the spinal cord spinal cord receives information from brain and stimulates nerves that extend out into the body. Also receives information from sensory nerves in the body and transmits to the brain. Peripheral nervous system is a division of nervous system that transmits signals between the brain and the rest of the body and is divided two parts; the somatic system and the autonomic system. Somatic system has nerves that control skeletal muscles responsible for movement and also has nerves that receive sensory input from the body. Any voluntary behaviour such as coordinating movies uses the somatic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is responsible for regulating activity of organs and glands. Autonomic nervous system splits into sympathetic nervous system and parasympathetic nervous system.
