Motivation- physiological & psychological processes underlying the initiation of behaviours that direct organisms toward specific goals. Initiating factors/ motives are thoughts, feelings, sensations & bodily processes that lead to goal directed behaviour. Drive- biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something & causes us to seek out what is needed such as food or water. Homeostasis- body"s physiological processes that allow it to maintain consistent internal states in response to the outer envir. Allostasis- motivation is not only influenced by current needs but also by the anticipation of future needs. The activity of the hypothalamus is influenced by hormones that are released in response to the energy needs of your body. Hypothalamus monitors blood chemistry of indicators of the levels of sugars and hormones. Glucose- sugar that serves primary energy source for the brain and the rest of the body. Glucose levels too low glucostats signal the hypothalamus that energy is low hungry.
