People are motivated not to see themselves as mentally ill so that they minimize symptoms. May be concerned on how others view them with an illness. May not trust psychological and psychiatric professions. One out of 2 canadian admits that they would not socialize with a friend who had a serious mental illness. One in four admit they are afraid to be around someone with a mental illness.
