Document Summary

13. 1 ~ the power of the situation: social influences on behaviour. The task is so hard that no one knows where to start: believing that one"s contributions are not important to the group. When a person can"t see hoe their input would help the group: not caring about the group"s outcome. When the person is not personally identified in the group: happens when they feel rejected from the group or thinks that the group is unsuccessful. 1) groups members ignore potential problems and risk the ideas they are considering. 2) influences others into supporting their idea. 3)group becomes overly confident and fails to think carefully about its conclusion or decisions: groupthink is mostly for groups with a leader and groups that have something in common. Normative influence a social pressure to adopt a group"s perspective in order to be accepted by the group leads to public acceptance. Pluralistic ignorance shows when the social system needs a change.
