Psychological and physiological reaction that occurs when perceived demands exceed existing resources to meet those demands it refers to both events (stressors) and experiences in response to these events (the stress response) Stressors acute events giving a speech, experiencing an assault, getting in a car accident. Stressors chronic events illness, marital problems, job-related challenges. Highest stress events death of a spouse and divorce lowest stress events holidays and traffic tickets. As the points of the scale accumulate, the person"s chances of becoming ill increases.
