Document Summary

Module 13. 1: the power of the situation-social influences on behaviour. Chapter 13: social psychology: one thing is certain, people can resist social pressures in any circumstances and when they do the right thing, it pays off in a deep sense of inner conviction. This insight challenged the freudian theories of early 20th century, which painted a picture of a person"s behavior being guided by psychological dynamics that were rooted in that persons distant personal past. It also challenged behaviorism with its emphasis on the persons past history of conditioning. In contrast, social psychology focused on the present moment, arguing that the situation a person happens to be in at particular time is a key influence on behavior. This general approach has been extremely influential in social psychology and has been widely applied in the business world. Mimicry: mimicry: taking on for ourselves the behavior, emotional display, and facial expression of others.
