Document Summary

Interrogating association claims: with an association claim, two most important validities to interrogate are construct validity and statistical validity. Involves asking questions with good reliability, face validity, concurrently validity, its discriminant and convergent validity. In addition to indicating accuracy of predictions, effect sizes also indicate the importance of a result. If p <0. 05, we conclude the results are statically significant. In a correlational study, if there is not a full range of scores on one of the variables in the association, it can make the correlation appear smaller than it really is. In rare cases, there are curvilinear correlation in which the relationship between two variables is not a straight line. For example, a relationship can go from positive to negative: when researchers suspect a curvilinear association, the statically valid way to analyze is to compute the correlation between one variable and the square of the other.
