Consequences prisoners feel anguish when separated from family, animals are more aggressive and antisocial when reared in isolation or separated from mother. Communal relationship: relationships in which individuals feel a special responsibility for one another and are expected to be long term; based on principle of need give/receive according to who has the most urgent need. Exchange relationship: trade-based relationships where individuals feel little responsibility toward one another and are often short term; giving/ receiving based on equity (you get what you give) and reciprocity (what you give is returned) Eastern societies view relationships as more communal than westerners (exchange) in the workplace.
