Chapter 8- physical development and health in early childhood. Physical growth: early childhood- children slim down and shoot up, need less sleep and more likely to develop sleep problems. Improve in running, hopping, tying showelaces, putting cereal in bowl, and show preference for right/ left hand. Increased capacities of respiratory and circulatory systems which build physical stamina. Avoiding loud scary tv or active play b4 bedtime, not feeding/rocking before, not. Yielding requests for one more story or drink of water- rewarding good bedtime behaviour , putting childr to sleep a little later etc. Emotion, physiogloigcal, or neurological condtion: possible sleep disturbances- night terrors, walking talking while asleep and night mares. Sleep walking and talking: common in early-middle childhood, generally harmless and frequency decles with age, best not to interrupt sleep walking or night terrors, as it may confuse or further frighten the child.
