PSYB30H3 Chapter 3: PSYB30 Chapter 3
Document Summary
The dispositional domain concerns those aspects of personality that are stable over time, are relatively consistent over situations, and make people different from each other. The study of traits makes up the dispositional domain. The term disposition refers to an inherent tendency to behave in a specific way. The term trait is used interchangeably with the term disposition. Traits are seen as the building blocks of personality. Most popular taxonomy of personality has five fundamental traits: extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness. Every field needs to define its key terms explicitly. Example: biology species is a key concept, so the concept of species must be defined explicitly. When important traits are identified, formulate an organized scheme (taxonomy) within which to assemble the individual traits.
