Personality development: the continuities, consistencies, and stabilites in ppl over time and the ways that ppl change over time: each of these two facets stability & change requires definitons and qualifications. 3 forms of stability rank order stability. Rank order stability rank order stability: maintenance of indiv position within a group: rank order instability/change if ppl fail to maintain their rank order (if the submissive ppl rise up & put down the dominants, for example) More complex form of personality development, which involves changes in the manifestations of a trait. Personality coherence: maintaining rank order in relation to other indivs, but changing the manifestations of the trait: ex. the trait dominance". Ppl dominant @ 8 maifest their dominance by showing toughness in rough play. 1. the changes are typically internal to the person. Not merely changes in the external surroundings.
