Anxiety: the unpleasant feelings of fear or apprehension. Two components: physiological- heightened level of arousal and physiological activation, cognitive- subjective perception of anxious arousal and associated cognitive processes: worry and rumination. Its future focus; emphasizes things that could happen. Test anxiety: feeling of tension, apprehension and worry in actual or anticipated testing situations. Test irrelevant thinking: component of test anxiety involving an inability to concentrate due to mind wandering. Anxiety must be chronic relatively intense, associated w/ the role of impairment and causes distress for self or others. Anxiety disorders are diagnosed when subjectively experienced feelings of anxiety are present. Phobia: fear and avoidance of objects or situations that do not present any real dangers. Panic disorder: recurrent panic attacks involving a sudden onset of physiological symptoms, such as dizziness, rapid heart rate and trembling accompanied by terror and feelings of impending doom; sometimes accompanied by agoraphobia a fear of being in public places.
