Some of the symptoms may be seen in people we know and even in ourselves however a disorder needs to impair social and occupational functioning. *note: not diagnosed with pd unless symptoms were long-standing, pervasive, and dysfunctional. Historically, personality disorders have been grouped into three clusters: Cluster a (odd or eccentric)- these disorders reflect oddness and avoidance of social contact e. g paranoid, schizoid, and shizotypal. Cluster b (dramatic/emotional/erratic)- behaviours are extrapunitive and hostile e. g borderline, histrionic, narcissistic, and anti-social. Cluster c (anxious/fearful)- appear fearful e. g avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive. This cluster comprises three diagnosis: paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal. These people often expect to be mistreated, exploited, always alert for signs of trickery and abuse. Unjustified doubts about trustworthiness or loyalty of others e. g believes that a neighbour"s dog deliberately barks in the early morning to disturb them.
