PSYB45H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 18: Behavior Modification, Stimulus Control, Common Application
Document Summary
Antecedent control: modeling, physical guidance, and situational inducement. Behavior modification programs should include instructions in the form of rules that can be followed easily. Sometimes instructions are(cid:374)"t e(cid:374)ough so it"s (cid:374)e(cid:272)essar(cid:455) to i(cid:374)trodu(cid:272)e other t(cid:455)pes of a(cid:374)te(cid:272)ede(cid:374)t sti(cid:373)uli. Modeling is a procedure by which a sample of a given behavior is demonstrated to an individual to induce that individual to engage in a similar behavior. Modeling affects the behavior of people of all ages. Histor(cid:455) of rei(cid:374)for(cid:272)e(cid:373)e(cid:374)t a(cid:374)d punishment for imitating others is an important factor. Several other general factors influence the effectiveness of modeling. People are more likely to imitate those who are similar to them in various ways (age, physical appearance etc. ). Friends and peers are more likely to be imitated than strangers or people outside o(cid:374)e"s peer group. Thus, (cid:449)he(cid:374)e(cid:448)er possi(cid:271)le, use peers as (cid:373)odels i(cid:374) (cid:455)our (cid:271)eha(cid:448)ior (cid:373)odifi(cid:272)atio(cid:374) progra(cid:373)s.
