Document Summary

Chapter 14 establishing behaviour by escape and avoidance. Escape conditioning/negative reinforcement removal of certain (aversive) stimuli immediately after the occurred of a behaviour will increase the likelihood of that behaviour. Similar to punishment in that they both use an aversive stimuli differ in terms of both the antecedents and the consequences of behaviour. Punishment decreases the likelihood of the target response (slouching) and escape conditioning increases the likelihood of the target response of having good posture. Reinforcement strengthen responses and negative strengthening occurs because the response leads to the removal (taking away) of an aversive stimulus. Operant extinction if any individual emits a previously reinforced behaviour and that behaviour is not followed by a reinforcer then that person is less likely to do the same thing when a similar event happens. Ex children who had feeding disorders would refuse to take bites parents would then move the spoon away thus reinforcing their feeding disorder.
