Document Summary

Punisher ( aversive simuli ) refers to an immediate consequence of an operant behaviour that causes that behaviour to decrease in frequency. Principle of punishment states that if, in a given situaion, someone does something that"s immediately followed by a punisher, then that person is less likely to do the same thing again when they next encounter a similar situaion. Sending a person to prison isn"t seen as punishment in terms of behaviour modiicaion. Not likely to be an immediate consequence of commiing the crime. People believe that prison is/should be form of retribuion that"s given individual deserves it in some moral sense. Sending person to prison is viewed as a deterrent to other potenial wrongdoers. Uncondiioned punishers refer to simuli that are punishing without any prior learning. Condiioned punishers refer to simuli that become punishing of pairing with another punisher (i. e. require learning) Nociceptors refer to physical punishers that are simuli that acivate pain receptors (ex: loud noises, slaps)
