PSYB45H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 25: Token Economy, Absenteeism, Montrose Wolf
Document Summary
Tokens are conditioned reinforcers that can be accumulated and exchanged for goods & services (i. e. , more time on facebook). A behavioural program in which people can earn tokens for a variety of desirable behavior and can exchange the earned tokens for backup reinforcers is called a token economy . Our modern society in which people perform a variety of jobs to earn money that they exchange for various items such as food, shelter, clothing transportation, luxuries, and access to leisure activities is a complex token economy. A system in which people purchase bus or subway tokens that they exchange for access to public transit is a simpler token economy. Token economies are also used as educational & therapeutic tools in behaviour modification programs. A token economy could be set up for an individual, but the term token economies refers to token systems with groups.
