PSYB45H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 23: Tantrum, Binge Eating, Functional Analysis
Document Summary
Chapter 23 functional assessment of problem behavior. Treatment should be based on the function of the behavior, not on its form seen in iwata"s experiment. Functional analysis is referred as gold standard of functional assessment because other functional assessment procedures have not been as effective in identifying the variables maintaining problem behavior. Another way the amount of time required in a functional analysis is to use the alone conditions as screening phase when internal sensory reinforcement is suspected. Another view to identify the antecedents and consequences that control problem behavior is to interview the client or people who are familiar with the client. We observe and describe the antecedent and immediate consequence of the problem behavior in its natural settings. Four 12 minutes session were conducted every other day for 1 week: observational functional assessments. Reinforcement reinforcing in a private treatment room containing a small table, two chair, a wall clock and one way observation window.
