Chapter 17 antecedent control: rules and goals. B/c previous antecedent stimuli that leads us to our responding behaviour has been reinforced/punished/extinguished, antecedents control our behaviour. Rule: a situation in which a behaviour will lead to a consequence. Rule can function as an s b/c will lead to a reinforcer or a punisher. Rules may clearly identify the consequence or punishers, or it can imply the consequences. Partial rules: do not identify all 3 aspects of a contingency of reinforcement. Contingency-shaped behaviour: behaviour develops b/c of its immediate consequences rather than a specific statement/rule (e. g. learned from trial and error; figuring out what gets reinforced and what doesn"t) Rule-governed behaviour: behaviour that is emitted due to a statement of a rule: involves with a delayed consequence and frequently leads to immediate behaviour change, behaviour is strengthen by immediate reinforcement may be the result of rules.
