Whites : 1970 (kovel) dominative vs aversive racism. Dominative racist: type who acts out bigoted blacks as aggressive, impulsive, and lazy beliefs representing the open flame of racial hatred. In contrast when there were other bystanders to bore witness, they were more likely to help out whites than blacks: selection decision: when candidates credentials were clearly qualified or disqualified, no discrimination occurred. But when the decisions were ambiguous, white participants recommended black candidate significantly less often than white candidate with exactly the same credentials: research: participants with scored high and low in self report measures for prejudice. When applicants were storng on one dimension (college boar scores) and relatively weak on another (high school grades), black applicants tended to be recommended less strongly than were white applicants by more highly prejudices whites.
