Stigmatized people sometimes decide that negative stereotypes of their group are valid, and stereotype themselves i. e. overweright pple think thi people can be just as lazy. Sometimes accept that they deserve their devalued status, and legitimize and defend the system that devalues them. Self-esteem refers to personal and global feelings of self-worth, selfr egard, or self-acceptance. Psychs think its indicative of mental health and psychological well-being. Self-hatred and feelings of worthlessness tend to arise from membership in underprivileged. Erik erikson - inferiority feelings and of morbid self-hate in all minority groups. Allport - group oppression may destroy the integrity of the ego entirely, pride, self-image. Black children prefer white over black dolls; does not indicate low self esteem. Researchers discovered that black children did not widely suffer from low self-esteem.
