Document Summary

Wechsler emphasized that factors other than intellectual ability are involved in intelligent behaviour. The role of non-intellective factors is apparent in the wechsler intelligence scales. Two critical differences between the wechsler and the original binet scales: wechsler"s use of the point scale concept rather than an age scale, wechsler"s inclusion of a non-verbal performance scale. In a point scale, credits or points are assigned to each item: an individual receives a specific amount of credit for each item passed, this scale makes it easy to group items of a particular content together. Wechsler included an entire scale that provide a measure of nonverbal intelligence: a performance scale: the performance scale consisted of tasks that require a subject to do something rather than merely answer questions. One could not determine the precise extent to which a subject"s response to a nonverbal performance task increased or decreased the total scale on the binet scale.
