Document Summary

Chapter 2: origins of criminal behavior: developmental risk factors. As preschooler, trent = child most known for shoving other children, stepping on their toes, & refusing to comply with instructions of his teachers. In early grade school, he became classroom bully; at age 8, began to steal from other children, from storekeepers, from teachers, & from his parents. By middle school, he was experimenting with alcohol & other drugs. 4 separate occasions, all relating to violent behavior, & he dropped out at 16. Trent was convicted of robbery at age 19. Ab, including cb, in adults can often be traced to their childhoods. Ex: if we look back at childhoods of chronic offenders we see signs portending problems in adulthood, although this is not invariably so. Many theories of criminology propose that roots of serious cb appear in childhood/early adolescence. Important to identify both factors that put children at risk of becoming antisocial.
