Pharmacokinetics, is concerned with how drugs move throughout the body. Pharmacodynamics, is concerned with how drugs cause biological changes in the body. Friday january 22nd 2016: absorption: refers to the entry of a drug into the circulatory system. Most therapeutic drugs are orally administered and most drug absorption occurs in the small intestine: distribution: the passage of a drug through the body. Bioavailability: ability of a drug to reach a site of action. Nonspecific binding: binding of a drug to sites that are not the intended target for drug effects. Eg. when the dug binds to proteins in the bloodstream, as a result drugs cannot cross the blood brain barrier. This conversion most often takes place in the liver, but can also occur in the stomach. Personalized medicine: method of prescribing drugs most appropriate for a patie(cid:374)t"s unique biological makeup. First pass metabolism: metabolism of a drug begins to occur before the drug reaches the site of action.
